hey instead of bullying straight/white/cis people because “they havent been oppressed” how about we dONT PICK ON ANYBODY AT ALL??????H OW ABOUT WE????FUCKING PRACTICE WHAT WE PREACH AND BE NICE TO INDIVIDUALS…
Let’s put it this way: If you’re straight, white, and cis it’s like getting into this world(game) on the easy difficulty. The NPC by default are less threatening, you start with more quest options and the enemies are a lot less present in numbers.
Add differences and you add difficulties, whether it’s creeps following you at night, or being refused access to options because of your colour/gender/identification/origins. We don”t all start in the same place, and with the same opportunities.
What’s horrible is that in this day and age, people are hurting others for no reason other than to feel validated and to feel like no one is taking away their “pain”. I’m sorry but if you’re a dude, you don’t know about periods and about being told you’re hysterical because you’re pms-ing. You don’t know about being followed at night by a guy who’s yelling NICE TITS SMILE FOR ME WILL YA? And if you’re white, you don’t know about people assuming shit because of your skin colour. You don’t know about being misrepresented in the media, you don’t know about people spitting in your direction because of some bullshit preconceived idea. If you’re straight and cis, you don’t know about having to come out, you don’t know about feeling like the entire universe is against you.
So yes, you might have issues, whether they be due to the fact that more violence is directed towards you because you’re male, or that the patriarchy expects you to be strong and “manly”. You might have issues due to the fact that you don’t fit society’s typical standards of beauty. But don’t go and say that “men have it hard too” when there’s a discussion about feminism and women’s conditions. Don’t go “but what about white people” when talking about racism. There’s a time and place for everything, and knowing about your privilege (whatever it might be) is very important, if only to be used as a sign of respect towards people who are suffering too.
I think these sites do something hilarious, something I’ve tried to do my whole online history, which I think of as ‘mocktivism,’ that is, activism by mockery. You showcase how…
